BS5837 Tree Surveys and Arboricultural Reports
Our BS5837 tree surveys and arboricultural reports support planning applications and development projects.
In most cases, you will need a BS5837 survey as part of a planning application. This report assesses the condition, quality, and constraints of trees on or near a development site in line with BS5837. As a result, it ensures trees are properly considered throughout the design, demolition, and construction stages.
We assess:
- Tree condition, age, and life expectancy
- Visual amenity value
- Root Protection Areas (RPA)
- Potential constraints on development
We then categorise all trees in accordance with BS5837. This allows you to make informed decisions about whether to retain or remove trees as part of your site layout.
We typically carry out tree inspections from ground level. However, when needed, we can arrange for an aerial inspection to be carried out to provide a more detailed assessment.
Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIA)
As part of your BS5837 report, we also include an Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA).
This assessment explains how your proposed development will affect existing trees. It also identifies the constraints you must consider during both the design and construction stages.
Your AIA will include:
- Assessment of impacts above and below ground
- Root Protection Areas (RPA) mapped against proposed layouts
- Tree constraints shown on existing and proposed site plans
- Guidance on how to avoid or minimise damage to retained trees
Tree Protection Plans and Planning Support
When required, we prepare a Tree Protection Plan (TPP) that shows how you will protect retained trees throughout construction.
This helps you:
- Meet local planning authority requirements
- Reduce the risk of objections or delays
- Maintain compliance throughout the build process
