Tree subsidence damage occurs when roots from nearby trees influence and extract moisture from shrinkable clay soils that are beneath existing buildings causing the foundations to sink and subside. The resulting damage is known as tree subsidence damage. This interaction depends on many complex inter-related factors including species of tree, size and vigour of tree, proximity of tree to the building/structure, type of soil beneath foundations and the depth, type and quality of foundations.
