Tree Condition surveys and BS5837:2012 Compliancy Reports
Tree Surveys and British Standard 5837:2012 Compliancy Reports play a key role in today’s planning system and involve assessing the visual amenity of trees and recording their individual condition and the constraints they place on a development site in line with BS 5387:2012 ‘Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction – Recommendations’. Tree inspections are generally made from ground level, though climbing inspections are offered where necessary to allow informed remedial management. We will look at a tree’s age, dimensions, and overall health, the likely root spread, and above-ground parts, and consider any site-specific factors. The trees will be categorized according to their quality and visual amenity value in accordance with BS5837:2012, so that informed decisions can be made concerning which trees should be removed or retained in the event of development occurring.
Arboricultural Impact Assessment
As part of the Tree Survey report, we would also include an Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA) which gives detail about the above and below ground tree constraints/root protection zones to help inform the design process. We include a draft Tree Protection Plan at this stage which gives a guide as to how the trees to be retained, would be protected during the construction process. Arboricultural Impact Assessments are an essential tool for any proposed developments that include existing trees.
